The mixed media piece, Rustic Beauty, represents the antiquity and beauty of Venice, Italy. The focal point of the art work is a photo that I took in Venice and transferred to a clay substrate. The area around the transferred photo is clay that was shaped and imprinted with designs. The glazed colors of the clay represent life in Venice and all the different exotic foods that are served there. The designs and circles in the clay represent the cobbled streets throughout the city, and the cracks represent the history and the age of Venice. I created rust on the piece of metal with water and acid, securing it to the back of the ceramic tile. The rust represents the old culture and how the city is surrounded by water and that many things in Venice have a rusty yet intriguing look to them.
