Meet Sophia

I was introduced to Jewelry Design my freshman year of High School at Detroit Country Day where my interest and passion for design developed. I attend The University of Michigan, STAMPS School of Art and Design, and am seeking a BFA, with a Minor in Entrepreneurship. I spent a semester abroad in London at University of Arts London (UAL) Central Saint Martins in the BA (Hons) Jewellery Design program. Not only did I learn in depth jewelry techniques from one of the most competitive art schools in the world, but I also learned how to show my work in a gallery space, work with clients and high end brands like Swarovski’s Sustainability Team. I also spent a summer at Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) taking college classes in different mediums including fashion.

Creating innovative designs using a variety of materials and learning the nuances of producing wearable products has always interested me. Since I started designing jewelry I have done every step on my own from sketching, buying materials, choosing techniques, creating it, picturing, gallery showings and selling. This has taught me every step needed to be successful in this industry. I am always asked what I enjoy doing most and I don't think my answer will ever change. Being in the studio brings out my most creative and confident self.

At the University of Michigan I have been able to explore a variety of studio classes allowing myself the versatility of learning a wide variety of skills before graduation in April 2023. Entrepreneurial classes have given me the insight and motivation to explore new avenues to combine my passion for jewelry and fashion design.
